the health and human services secretary decided not to allow plan b to be sold over the counter or be available to those under 17 without parental permission. a surprise though because the fda was preparing allowing it to be stocked on store shelves available to anyone. plan b available from a pharmacist without a prescription for those 17 and older who can prove their age. an important announcement about the fight against breast cancer. doctors say two drugs when preskrupr prescribed together can improve the quality of life for whippen with the advanced form of the disease. >> reporter: suzanne ebert savors every moment with her two young children. this was her just a few years ago. >> i was on top of the world. and in one week my life completely changed. >> reporter: she noticed a lump on her breast and found out it was cancer not just any cancer. >> i was stage four. there is no stage five. so, that's probably the worst

diagnosis you can get. >> reporter: she endured four round of chemotherapy. >> each one had more and more side effects. and i was feeling worse and worse. >> reporter: so suzanne switched gears trying a new combination of pills that starve tumor cells, the two drugs never had been used together. rather than blasting the whole body with chemothey zero in on the tumor cells. in just three months the tumors in suzanne's liver shrunk more than 20% from this to this. so far, researchers have only tried this new drug combination on patients with the most dire breast cancer diagnoses. but they say it is an enkur ramgiramg iramg -- encouraging approach. >> these therapies are taking advantages of weaknesses in tumor. >> reporter: weakening tumors but not the patient. >> the haze lifts and you can feel like you, participate in life again. very lucky lady there.

the can. >> reporter: the 17-year-old its credited with saving the day. the senior says early on the driver was not his normal self. she drove strangely after leaving campus, swerved on city roads and did not seem to pay attention. williams kept a close eye on the 65-year-old bus driver. >> i was looking at hip, and his eyes would close. get to a turn. open them up. look both ways. start driving. and get closer. and close more and more. >> reporter: but when the bus hilt the highway with at least 25 students on board and the driver lost consciousness again that's when he took action. he believes if he would have stayed seated the bus would have slammed into a freeway sign or retaining wall. >> if something would have happened if i didn't get up. i know there would have been a big huge thing going on. he would have crashed and been a whole lot more. >> reporter: tacoma schools says the driver had an impeccable driving record that had worked for the district bus provider for eight years. >> certainly safety is very

in fact a later tweet from baldwin compared american flight attendants to catholic school gym teachers from the 1950s. >> i didn't have the privilege of having a parochial education, i don't know what a catholic gym teacher in the 50s looks like. obviously it was an insult, and demeaning. >> reporter: many of us chafe at the rule of turning off electronic devices. but wendy stafford who runs a private flight attendant training course says passengers have to obey the rules whether nay luke them or not. >> the flight attendants are there for the safety of the passengers and not just to serve cookies and drinks. >> reporter: if you don't obey, flight attendants can hatch you removed even if a movie star. baldwin's publicist says the actor was unfairly singed out. other passengers were using their electroning devices. but baldwin himself may be trying to end the war. he deactivated his twitter account. dan harris, abc news, new york.

this morning on "world news now" -- locked up. the jerry sandusky sex abuse scandal takes a dra mat uk turn as police in pennsylvania take him into custody. >> investigators reveal new and disturbing details from sandusky's abusers. it's thursday, december 8th. good morning, everybody. i'm rob nelson. >> and i'm sunny hostin. bail for sandusky has been set at $250,000 in cash. the former coach expected to make bail when he goes to court later today. but for now he is spending the night in a jail cell. he still insists of course he never broke the law. >> this arrest prompted by two

new abusers. >> ten. all ten so far. >> the scene some expected to see after the initial eight people came forward. now he gets to be behind bars if just for a short amount of time. the case unbelievable. also this morning, unforgettable call to 911. a california woman calls for help when she saw an intruder breaking in. she told police she had a gun. and we'll hear how the jaw dropping story end. amazing audio on the story as to what this woman did. >> later this hour, the reality tv show stunt that backfired. producers fired off a cannon. see the damage and hear the apology. >> just a cannon. what could go wrong, who could foresee. a cannon. happens every day. before all that, jerry sandusky is spending the night in jail for the first time since the penn state sex scandal broke weeks ago. the former coach expected to post bail. >> two new accusers telling a story that has become sadly familiar.

sandusky met them through his charity. gave them gifts and began sexually assaulting them. here's abc's t.j. winick. >> reporter: handcuffed wearing a penn state sweat suit, jerry sandusky was arrested again wednesday charged with molesting two young boys he met at the charity he founded. that brings total number off ledged victims in the criminal case, to ten. >> jerry is scratching his head saying what's next. i said don't ask that question. don't ask can it get worse, because it can. >> reporter: according to the grand jury indictment, victim nine is now 18 years old and says sandusky began molesting hip at age 11. some of at takes allegedly occurred in the basement of sandusky's house or a swimming pool at a nearby hotel. victim ten claims he was groomed by sandusky like all the others given cash, gifts and football games before the abuse began. he says the alleged encounters with the penn state football coach only ended after he refused to perform a sex act in a car. >> i didn't do those things. >> reporter: just last week,

jerry sandusky told "the new york times" he did nothing illegal. his repeated denials have only emboldened his accusers. >> first he serially abused my client. and then he has to hear sandusky deny that he did those things. >> reporter: the several new charges include four counts of involuntary deviant sexual intercourse. his bail set at $250,000 cash. the judge also ordered that he wear an electronic monitoring device and he is banned from penn state property. sandusky has had a hearing set for next tuesday. that's still the case. in a highly unusual move at least eight accusers are set to testify at the preliminary hearing. t.j. winick, abc news. >> if these allegations are true he is truly a sick man. i am surprised he was wearing the penn state gear. >> little bit of sad irony he was wearing that. and the all the victims, they're sharing similar stories how they were groomed by the coach. >> it is a pattern.

>> that's how child molesters tend to work. >> that's exactly how they work. the stories are consistent and consistent with sexual abuse. >> in case you are wondering what happened with his charity, a breeding ground for his victims in a way could be shutting down operations at the very least reducing programs. another ripple effect to awful this. it doesn't end there in the other sexual abuse case that received so much national attention no charges will be filed now against former syracuse university basketball coach bernie fine. a district attorney from the region around the school says the charges against fine are simply too old to prosecute. the d.a. also says he believes only two of fine's three accusers are actually telling credible stories. >> there is no doubt in my mind that if presented with these two victims today, the statute of limitations had not run, there would be criminal charges against bernie fine that i would ethically feel comfortable asking a jury to convict him of beyond a reasonable doubt.

defense. >> obviously. so terrifying. imagine putting yourself in that situation. >> she stayed clear headed. i am going to shoot him. >> she did. a new clue has turned of in the search for a missing florida mom who vanished after appearing on the people's court. police have found michelle parker's iphone. her family says the phone was still in its pink, black, white case and in good shape actually. detectives reportedly also made a stop at the home of parker's ex-fiance, the prime suspect in the case, dale smith. parker has not been seen since she dropped off their 3-year-old twins at his condo three weeks ago. former illinois governor rob blagojevich will begin serving his 14 year prison sentence mid february. he is being put away on 18 counts of political corruption. before being sentenced blagojevich apologized telling the judge he had made terrible mistakes and he was the only one to blame. he is the second straight illinois governor to go to

prison. the latest poll of republican voters shows that newt gingrich is the clear front-runner in three key states. gingrich has taken a 13-point lead in iowa over mitt romney. in south carolina and florida. gingrich has a 23-point advantage. but romney is still leading the race in new hampshire, by about nine points. the states are all critical to the gop candidates because of the early voting that will kick off now unjust a few weeks. the political attacks against gingrich taking on an aggressive tone ahead of saturday's crucial debate. in new ad, mitt romney is casting himself as a religious man, devoted husband and father. clear reference to gingrich's three marriages, and even rick perry frying to reignite his campaign launched a new series of ad emphasizing his christian credentials. occupy protestors brief leave interrupted a speech by romney supporter chris christie in iowa last night. protestors chanted "put people first" as christie waited for them to finish. they were all escorted out by

district of columbia unless i have to. >> reporter: that wasn't the case for david hill sunday night as part of an annual family tradition, hill, his wife, three sisters and husband rented a limousine and drove from their home in maryland into d.c. to take in the sights and take pictures at the white house christmas tree. his fun night took an ugly turn when he decided to break away from the group and take a picture of the executive office building next to the white house. the picture was to bow a christmas present for his 85-year-old father who worked there for 40 years. >> i wanted to get a better shot. there was a, temporary fence set up. call it a bicycle fence. it had an opening it which i did move and i entered past the fence. >> reporter: hill was able to take the pictures and then two secret service agents came up to him. >> they wanted to see the pictures i had on my camera. i showed it to them. they wanted to know what made me so spesh cial to be in the restricted area.

deserve special treatment. the judge saying i see case after case where good parents are bad citizens. then he added -- if it is any consolation to your children you do not stand here being convicted of a bad father. the judge then said blagojevich had ripped apart the fabric of faith in government and sentenced him to 14 years in federal prison. blagojevich earlier accepted responsibility for his actions saying i made terrible mistakes they were my mistakes my actions i am responsible, i caused it all. and much of his 18-minute speech to the judge was spent in apology. the ex-governor's deepest lament focused on his wife and two daughters. >> this is a time for me to be strong, for my children, be strong for patty. >> what happened for the family is a -- is a very sad situation. we have to understand is when people commit crimes there are severe consequences to the victims of the crime. when people are caught there are consequences for them. and the harshest consequences are for their families. >> reporter: in chicago, paul
